Niels Beth (1986) grew up in the rural countryside in the southwest part of the Netherlands. He studied journalism and security management. After a long and divers career including jobs at the alarm centre of an elevator company and the Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Service, he decided to turn his life around.
During his study at the Dutch Film Academy he made the film Through the Fire (2017),a portrait of a traumatised fire fighter who instead of helping others now needs help himself.
His third year film was an interview film named Article 240 (2018) with the aim to apply nuance in the complex social en ethical debate about pedophilia.
In his graduation year he made the observational film One Thing at a Time (2019), about a residential facility for people with a long psychiatric history. A glimpse in the life of two caretakers to see how they try to give fragile people as much independency as possible.
Niels has an interest in social relevant and urgent themes. He wants to show hidden worlds to a larger audience. People that serve a higher purpose inspire him.
